Red shoes, No knickers

January 2013

And coming up next…

I don’t often buy Vogue but I do like to splash out on it twice a year when they include an extra booklet that shows the upcoming seasons trends. You’re getting more for your dollar so it’s worth it in my book! I’m certainly not a trend follower as I believe you should wear what suits you, your body type and makes you feel comfortable & good about yourself. However I do like to keep an eye on what’s going to be in the shops and whether something new and exciting is arriving that will inspire me to experiment with what I already own.

Sadly the upcoming season is not inspiring me as much as I want it to. After the excitement of Snow week I need something to look forward because the January blues are slowly but surely sliding back into position. Unfortunately Plastic fantastic, fitting florals, metals, linear prints all feel like they’ve either been done before or they’re trying too hard. Plastic dresses? Really? In the summer? I mean I know we have a lot of rain in the uk but come on, I don’t need to squeak every time I walk just to keep myself dry!

Three trends did catch my eye though. Firstly wearable whites:

Lace, crochet, broderie anglaise and brocade are beautiful words to my large ears and get me excited about getting dressed. Details and divineness can still be simple when their bathed in a light of white.

White shoes? Did someone say white shoes y’all? Well here be my ‘I’m moving house so thought I might just buy some shoes instead of packing’ shoes mixed in with the next trend I like the sound of ~ NOIR

Great minds think a like because for the past couple of months I have been planning a wedding outfit in my head and I have been thinking about ‘darkness out of context’.Β I want to wear a simple, strappy black lace dress that has a flowing skirt, will be cool enough for June and will allow me to dance wildly into the wee small hours. NEVER A GOOD THING TO DO MY SHOELETS! The idea in my head is so precise that I Β will never be able to find it and will only be disappointed. I still have 4 Β months though so need to get sourcing and finding an alternative.

The final trend that I am most excited about is ~ as always ~ an oriental take on clothes:

While I won’t necessarily be going for the socks and sandals look ~ if I do it will have been a VERY VERY bad day and you have my permission to tell me I look like a bag of shit ~ but I think I love the escapism of all things oriental and, what with these pared down looks above, the simply but unusual cut of clothes.

I’m ready to shed a few layers, ditch the tights and start experimenting with my wardrobe again…Come on Spring. We can’t wait to hang out with you.
